Friends, family, wealth, beauty, strength, and wisdom all fail him as he approaches the grave alone. The song transforms that ancient allegory through a Biblical message of judgment, repentance, grace, and resurrection. Neither possessions nor reputation can answer Death’s call, and no righteous appearance can erase sin. The dying man turns to Yahweh for mercy through Yeshua’s blood and places his hope in the day when the trumpet sounds and the dead are raised.
